Until he went down with an avulsion fracture in his left knee, the man known as Tyrone Smith was the driving force behind the Cowboys’ offense. The multi-talented Smith is a composer, entrepreneur, singer, writer, civil rights activist, and record producer. While Smith is no doubt a major contributor, he is hardly a household name. As a result, his absence is a big blow for a team that is currently one loss away from a playoff berth.
While the Cowboys have been playing without their best offensive lineman since August, they’re not expected to be without him for much longer. In fact, he might even make his season debut this week against the Texans. If the Cowboys can make this week’s matchup a cakewalk, Smith’s return could be imminent. Considering the fact that he is the only pro-bowl caliber lineman in Dallas’ stacked o-line, it’s no surprise that the Cowboys would want to get him on the field as soon as possible.
Although Smith is still a few months away from returning to the lineup, he is on track for a long career with the Cowboys. This might be a good time to evaluate the former all-pro and see if he is the next player to earn a starting job. Regardless, the Cowboys will be happy to have him back in a week or two. In the meantime, Tyler Smith has taken over the job at left tackle. In addition to his performance in the trenches, the 2021 fifth-round pick has displayed a solid foot quickness and has gotten some practice time as a left guard.
Considering the Cowboys are a two-and-a-half game lead in the NFC East, they may want to get their hands on the coveted starting job in the near future.
